Welcome!

Welcome!

Hey everyone! My name’s Genaro E. Venalonzo, but most people just call me “G.” Honestly, it’s probably for the best because unless you’re Italian, Catholic, or speak Spanish, my name usually gets butchered. I’ve met very few people who can pronounce it right on the first try, and that’s okay. I’ve learned to laugh it off (and honestly, “G” just sounds kind of cool).

So, why start a blog? Well, life’s been pretty wild lately, and I’ve realized there are a lot of people out there who genuinely care about stories, like actual real ones. The world can feel like a nonstop roller-coaster, and sometimes you just need a place to slow down, think, or maybe just laugh for a bit. Hopefully, this blog can be that kind of place.

A Little About Me

I’m 27 years old, born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. I’ve got two awesome sisters—Anali and Stephanie—who keep me humble and grounded (most of the time). I work as a Business Systems Analyst for the Pima County Attorney’s Office, which is just a fancy way of saying I solve problems and make things work better behind the scenes.

Meet my sisters! And yes, before you ask, they’re both proud Wildcats from the University of Arizona.

Outside of work, music is my world. I play guitar, piano, harmonica, and I love to sing. I actually went to music school for years and lived and breathed classical music. (One of these days, I’ll write about how intense classical musicians can be. It’s a whole world of its own!) But honestly, I love all kinds of music. If it sounds good or makes me feel something, I’m in.

I’m also a graduate of the University of Arizona. Bear Down!

And a licensed pastor with the Assemblies of God. I don’t usually lead with that part because, let’s be real, people start acting different when they find out you work in ministry. Suddenly the jokes stop and the conversation gets super polite. I’ve seen it too many times, ha.

Fun fact: my dad and sister Stephanie are licensed pastors too. We all got our credentials on the same day.

How I Got Here

My teenage years? Rough. Like, really rough. I went through a lot of things that could’ve changed my life completely. There were moments where I shouldn’t have made it, but I did. And I believe with everything in me that Christ saved my life—not once, not twice, but three times.

Funny thing is, I didn’t always believe in God. I subscribed to the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and became a “GOD IS DEAD” type for a while. But life has a way of flipping your perspective, and before I knew it, I was standing in places I never thought I’d be. Now, I try to reach others who are walking through the same dark places I once did. If my story can give someone hope, then it’s worth sharing.

What I’m Up To Now

These days, I’m the Worship Leader, Co-Pastor, and Youth Leader at Horeb Community Church here in Tucson. (If you’re ever in the area, come visit! You can check us out at horebcommunitychurch.com

I’ve seen God do some amazing things—things I couldn’t make up if I tried. And for that reason, I want to use this blog to share some of that. But don’t worry, not every post will be about religion or preaching. I promise I’ll keep it real.

So yeah, this is me. I’m just a guy who loves music, faith, and deep conversations—and I’m excited to start this new chapter with you all. I’ll try to post every week, so stay tuned. And hey, if anything I write makes you think, smile, or even just feel a little less alone… then this whole blogging thing will be worth it.

Oh, and here’s a song for y’all to listen to! It holds a special place in my heart. I can’t wait for the day that I’ll fly home soon—to my Father.

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” – 2 Corinthians 13:14 (ESV)
